Information Literacy

I have seen how much you all enjoyed tonight's activities. What do you think about MAPing activities? How did you conduct online search for information before? How will you do it from now on? What will be different?

At the end, provide link to the blog you created tonight.

The one thing I didn't know what about the quotation marks making the search term a concept rather than individual terms. That will come in handy in the future. I also wasn't aware that I could find out the creator of the website and all the history. That will also come in handy. I'll probably use the same search engine and techniques I've always used I'll just know more about them now!

The mapping activities were very interesting. I did learn alot about the validating of websites. In the past I searched the web by mainly by just typing in the information in google and just went with the result as long as they apeared correct or accurate. I now have the information to research the validity and will try and do so in the future.

I found the mapping activities very helpful. Before this class I would simply type in the topic that I wanted to search with in the search bar. Now I know that if I add quotation marks or boolean words such as AND, NOT, & OR then I will not get so much "trash" when searching for a topic. The only search engine that I usually use is google.com, I need to use many different ones so that I am not getting the same information over and over.

I think this activity was pretty interesting. I really do feel that i learned quite a bit about discovering how accurate website are. There are many tricks to determine how factual each website is and I know that this information with be very helpful in the future. I normally Google just about everything when searching for information. I do quite often look at Wikipedia for quick information such as dates. In the future, I know that will be double checking the website I want to use during research. here is the link to my blog...

I think that the MAPing activities were very helpful in knowing which websites are actually helpful and which ones are just for fun. Before this class, I just typed things into the search engine and browsed the results. From now on I will use the quotes and the boolean words more often to get better results. The difference will be use of quotes and boolean words. My blog link is http://kmt2006etec424.blogspot.com/

This is an interesting class so far even though I have done most of it before. I think that we will be getting into some stuff though that I don't know soon. Thanks!

The MAPping activity was a prime example of how technologically illiterate I really am. I thought I knew quite a bit about how to navigate the internet but apparently I had fooled myself. The tools learned in the activity will enhance my internet experience making it a more useful.
Before I learned how to correctly search for information on the internet I would simple Google everything. I would simply insert the exact phrase I was looking for with no discretion for key words and Boolean words. Now that I know how to search for information correctly, I can find more accurate information. The relevance of my search results will be improved, by including keywords and phrases.

I have learned a great deal of class so far. I have always had trouble knowing which websites are reliable and which ones aren't. I never knew that you could find the histories of any of the websites that you visit. So far the class has been very informative and interesting. I am looking forward to seeing what else we can accomplish the computer this semester.

I enjoyed working with our groups tonight and putting some faces to the names in our discussion group. I also gained some more understanding of the Boolean search terms, etc. which will be very helpful to me. I also learned a lot about how to validate a website. This will be very important to remember when I have my own classroom and send my students on searches.

I enjoyed the class tonight. I have never blogged before, so it was fun. I have always used yahoo or google to conduct searches. I will still continue to use them. I think it is really cool how we can check to see if a web site is valid or not.

I never realized that any of the MAPing methods we used tonight even existed! I've always just judged a website's authenticity by the way it looks (professional or like a 4-year-old made it). Now that I know how to properly research this, I'll be sure to use these methods from now on!

I really enjoyed tonights class. I learned a lot from this quick lesson. I don't think I have realy observed all of my searches when I do them. I think that for now on I will look at them carefully and know which site is valuable.

The mapping activities were a new and interesting topic for me. I knew that there were a lot of crazy websites out there but did not know that you could actually validate them. Google is my absolute favorite search engine but now that I know I am able to go in different directions, I will. Overall I really enjoyed this activity.

I belibe skype can be very helpful for students and teacher. Well actially it is because there are many people using it allready. I think school Districts should let their staff and students be part of the mass of technology while they are at school. However there are may schools who do not let them use it. I ejoy it evn when the teacher was not even to hear what I was saying. I did head her. This was the first time for my to use it.

Skype csanbe used when the teacher is sickmor if the student is. the eacher can be explaining to the students like they are in the same classroom, or face to face. Also the student can also visualize what if the teacher has to show an example.
