Supporting Writing with Technology

Based on our in class activities tonight and your reading of Chapter 4: Supporting Writing with Technology (pg. 61-80), I want to hear what you think about following:
  • How collaborative and presentation writing can be supported with technology
  • Use of Web 2.0 applications, especially blog, for writing/collaboration purposes

Note: Your statements need be supported with assigned reading or with research conducted on your own.

Blogging in the class room could be very hard. I am going to be teaching a class that will not invlove computers. But if I were to be usin gcomputers, you would be able to blog your classmates and ask them for help on the work you are trying to solve.

I think blogging can be used as an extra tool for students to further understand assignments and enrich their education. Today in school, students are involved in many activities that take time outside of the school day hours, such as athletics, band, choir, etc. For these students, or any that may need extra help, they would have more opportunities to ask a teacher questions about assignments if that teacher had a blog for their students.

Blogging could be used to see what students understood in the classroom during a particular lesson. This would give you a chance to work one-on-one with those particular students the next class period. You could ever pair up students who understand the lesson with someone who may not. This would utilize students while you could monitor the classroom to make sure everyone is on task.

With blogging in the classroom you can open the door for students that would otherwise be to shy to talk to other people. It is a good social skill. You can learn about someone and theire likes before talking to them face to face. Blogging can also put info out to other students that can be useful to a subject they are studing

I think if the students are taught in how to blog and share information online, it will be a great toll to guide and take them to a new level of knowledge and understanding. Blogging online will also give them new opportunity and open doors to a brand new future.

you can use blogging in the classroom for students and teachers to keep in touch outside of classroom time. As an Ag teacher I will be gone quite a bit during the year taking animals and shop projects to shows and this way if my students need me or have questions they can reach me. Also i think that using blogs, the parents can keep up with my program.

I am going to be teaching math so I'm not sure if blogging can be used in the classroom. The only way I can think of is for me as the teacher to have a blog where I post the assignments and the students can comment to ask questions.

I think that blogging can be very useful in the classroom, giving the students useful links to other pages, blogs, and websites. And it has the ability to show pictures, videos, and your thoughts on them at the same time, which would be beneficial to me as a future art teacher. Also you are able to communicate with parents and the students have the opportunity to connect with one another as well, not only within their own class but children from other classes as well.

I would use blogging in the classroom as a fun activity. I think this would give the students more experience on the computer and also make it fun. They can design their blog any way they want it. The more familiar the students are on the computer the better they will be when there is an assignment that has to be done on the computer.

As said earlier in our class discussion, after reading a book the kids can discuss the difference between what they read and the real life. This will also help students with their typing skills. On the other hand I don't know if every student will have a computer at home.

As a future English teacher and librarian, blogging and web 2.0 applications will always be an important part of my teaching and career. In my high school English class, I could use blogging for several different activities, such as: I could have my students set-up a reading journal for the different books we are reading in class and post a blog entry every night after reading. I could also set up a blog for the class and have the students comment on the days events during class, in an effort to allow the kids that are more shy than others a chance to speak up. I believe that blogging is an essential part of education because it is an emerging technology and as a teacher we will need to know what students are doing. Blogging also gives the parents an opportunity to see what their students are doing during class. It gives parents a chance to comment and become more actively involved in their child's school work.

I believe that blogging would be very beneficial to the classroom. As a teacher blogging can be used to let the students write down what they have learned each day. As a student blogging can be used to help students better understand the use of technology, as well as letting them interact and see each others posts to see what he or she may have forgotten. So I do believe blogging can be very helpful in the classroom by helping students and teachers become more familiar with the use of technology.

I think that blogging is very interesting and safe, rather than the social networking cites. Especially with teens who are on the computer all whether they are networking or blogging. With bloggin parents are able to see what exactly their children are doing. Which is great due to the fact that alot of negative things happen with social networking and other private cites. Parents will be aware of what their children are doing and will be able to keep track of their blogs.

How collaborative and presentation writing can be supported with technology
I feel that anytime you have an opportunity to collaborate forces to help, all things will work together for the good. We have so many students in Special Education today that will need alternative ways to help them stay ahead in life. This is the many ways it can be done.
Use of Web 2.0 applications, especially blog, for writing/collaboration purposes
I believe the use of web 2.0 applications would be good for students today because you could have students who are in Special Education and who normally do not follow along in class or have been removed will be able to keep up with the days assignments. Where some students will not write on paper or participate in class most today are on the computer after school anyway and can click on your blog and have them do just what we are doing here today.

a teacher, I believe blogging will be great for me to use in any subject that I am teaching. I really would like my students to blog after we have read a book in story time. I would ask them to blog about the main characters, plot, setting, and other topics about the book that was read. I also believe it can be used for any subject area. I think blog with my students will help me interact with them on a different level.

Blogs are seen by society as a kind of online diary. I think that is why it has been so long seen I have gotten one. Blogging can have many positive effects on the classroom. For one, students are able to converse with each other when not in school or around each other. Get information on a subject in school. One can write posts online and parents can see messages. It is much more easier than e-mail. Plus, its more fun. Since a blog is online, students can come in contact with people around the world. Email cannot do this.

Blogging is a good way for students who are shy in the classroom to speak out. This is a great way for them to be heard. I, myself would have like to have had this opportunity when I was in high school. So, now I am happy to have learn this.

I believe that using a blog feature in the class is a great thing. It gives students who are otherwise shy or afraid of giving wrong answers a chance to do so without the fear of peers making fun of them. It also gives the parents a chance to keep up with what their children are doing in class. I believe that the students would have fun with this type of work because some children are better typers than actual writers. The whole concept is exciting.

I think blogging in the classroom is great if you have the tools available to do so inside your class. It gives the students a chance to discuss what they are leanring as well as parents to go online and see what the kids are doing in class. However it can be difficult because students might post things they shouldn't as well as like I said earlier you have to have the tools available to do so.

I will be a Spanish Teacher for high school students where blogging can be a very beneficial activity. When I was in High school we would have pen pals in spanish speaking countries. I think that thru blogging, the idea of "pen pals" is facilitated because it benefits both parties. The students learns to be more active via technology use and can communicate at quicker speed, even after hours, while practicing objectives.
